Hey Jason,
Thanks for sending me your email Jason. That’s a pretty hard question to answer but I’ll do my best : ).

I guess I can just tell you the things that I find tricky between the 2 genres. I think that you will have to draw your own conclusions based on your own strength as [...]

The 1 to 7 Arban Challenge

Posted by Matt on March 19, 2008 | Comments (0) | Trackbacks (0)

Recently I’ve found that my practice regime has been lacking (to put it mildly) and as a consequence my progress is flat lining.
So in an effort to re-inspire and pick myself back up I will be trying a 30 day run of a new technique inspired by a fantastic trumpet player (to be named in [...]

Split Calm

Posted by Matt on March 3, 2008 | Comments (0) | Trackbacks (0)

I performed this piece in my final recital at the Conservatoire.
This was the first full collaboration between myself and Dave Livesey. The criteria I gave Dave was to write me a contemporary piece using the extended techniques open to the trumpets and over a friendly range (this was in order to keep my chops in [...]

Too Many Miles To Drive

Posted by Matt on February 7, 2008 | Comments (1) | Trackbacks (1)

Living in Liverpool is great at the moment but it does mean I have to drive 112 miles to get to gigs and teaching in Birmingham. Thank god for gadgets and audio to keep me sane.
For example tom tom, blue tooth hands free, ipods, podcasts and for the early morning drives The Chris Moyles Show.
I’m [...]

Sitting in with Dr DoLittle

Posted by Matt on February 6, 2008 | Comments (0) | Trackbacks (0)

I’ve spoken with a friend and great contact that I’ve made since being in Liverpool; Matt Loughran, who is currently playing keys on the show Dr DoLittile. (From the people I’ve spoken to he’s apparently a bit of an MD legend at LIPA as well.)
The plan is that hopefully I will be able to [...]

Posted by Matt on February 5, 2008 | Comments (0) | Trackbacks (0)

My gig last Sunday with the Big Swing was a sell out and seemed to go down pretty well. The Rat Pack Boys fronted the group and we got a few more bookings off the back of it.
Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Micheal Buble and Jamie Cullum are but some of the artists music and arrangements [...]

Updated Virb Playlist

Posted by Matt on February 4, 2008 | Comments (0) | Trackbacks (0)

I’m pretty new to the Virb but for me it’s got the formula right for social networking sites. Especially for musicians.
I’m sure I’ll post on this once I’m into it a bit more. For now I’ve updated my albums on My Virb Page to include The Sound Ideas Film Orchestra, a few samples of my [...]
